Interpretive Volunteers

Docents

Docents lead educational experiences that make technology, its history and stories, accessible and relevant for everyone. You should be comfortable speaking in public, have a positive attitude, and enjoy learning new skills. We especially welcome those interested in working with K–12 students. No prior experience necessary. As a docent, you will:

  • Lead interactive exhibition tours for school and adult groups, including international visitors and private tours.
  • Answer questions and help visitors learn more through interpretive conversations in exhibits, the Learning Lab, and at special events.

Demonstrators

Demonstrators share the history and impact of restored legacy computers through interactive conversations with Museum visitors. As a demonstrator, you will be trained to work with your choice of one of the following computers:

  • IBM 1401
  • PDP-1
  • IBM RAMAC

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at CHM. We are not currently accepting applications for new volunteers. Make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter—that’s how we’ll let our community know when we have reopened applications.
