Yiying Lu is an award-winning artist, entrepreneur, and TEDx speaker. She was a 2018 Fast Company Most Creative Person in Business, and is a Microsoft Emerging Leader in Innovation. Currently, she serves as Commissioner of the San Francisco Arts Commission, appointed by Major London Breed in April 2021. She also runs a San Francisco-based innovation studio with corporate clients including Apple, Google, Salesforce, and Airbnb. Lu has created iconic designs seen by billions of people, including the Twitter Fail Whale, Conan O'Brien Pale Whale, dumpling and boba tea emojis, and the Chinese-style Mickey Mouse for the Disney Shanghai opening. In 2017, she became IDEO’s first global Creative Collaborator in China. Before that, she was Global Creative Director at 500 Startups. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and BBC.
