Dr. Suhas Patil is founder and chairman emeritus of Cirrus Logic, a leading publicly held semiconductor company. He is also chairman of Cradle Technologies, Tufan, Inc., and Navin Communications.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Dr. Patil spent 10 years in academia. At MIT from 1970 to 1975, he was assistant professor of electrical engineering, and assistant director of Project MAC, the largest computer science lab in the US. From 1975 to 1980 he was associate professor of computer science at the University of Utah, where he started the VLSI group.
Dr. Patil has worked in the fields of computer architecture, parallel processing, mathematics for computer science, design methodology for very large integrated circuits, and IC design automation software. He has over 40 publications covering these areas of research and holds several patents in the field of integrated circuits.
In the early 1990s as founding president of the non-profit organization TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), he led it to become one of the most highly regarded and effective entrepreneur-mentoring efforts today. TiE now has 19 US and 41 international chapters.
Dr. Patil received his B. Tech (Honors) in electronics and electrical communications from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India, in 1965. At MIT, he earned an MSEE in 1967 and a DSEE in 1970. IIT awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Science degree in 1995, and in 2003, named him an IIT Life Fellow.
