Shigeru Sato

Mr. Sato is President of both Japanese and American divisions of Fujitsu Laboratories. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1958 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and began at Fujitsu that same year. Until Dec. 1982, he participated in the development of new computer systems and related technologies such as circuit engineering and design automation techniques. In January 1983, he began working in new computer system research, especially in knowledge information processing systems (Artificial Intelligence). Sato was elected to the Fujitsu Board of Directors in June 1987, became Managing Director in June 1991, and President in June 1994.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a member of the Information Processing Society of Japan and of the Japan Society for Artificial Intelligence, and is a Visiting Professor, Department of Computing, Imperial College, London.
