Mark Davis

Founder and Chairman of the Board, Unicode Consortium

Mark Davis is a pioneer in the internationalization and localization of software. Shortly before the first-ever website appeared, he and his cofounders established the Unicode Consortium, providing the foundation for everyone to communicate in their own languages, across all platforms. Davis was the president of the Consortium from incorporation in 1991 through 2022 and is the chair of the board and CTO. He proposed the original addition of emoji to the Unicode encoding, and was the chair of the Emoji Subcommittee until 2020. Davis received his PhD from Stanford, and has worked for Apple, Taligent, IBM, and Google.
