Mark Davis

Cofounder and CTO, Unicode Consortium

Mark Davis is the chief technology officer of the Unicode Consortium and chair of the CLDR (Common Locale Data Repository) technical committee. He was the president of the Unicode Consortium from incorporation in 1991 through 2022 and the chair of the board through 2023. Davis proposed the original addition of emoji to the Unicode encoding, and was the chair of the Emoji Subcommittee until 2020. He received his PhD from Stanford, and has worked for Apple, Taligent, IBM, and Google.
