Floyd Kvamme

Partner Emeritus, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers

E. Floyd Kvamme is a partner emeritus at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a high-tech venture capital firm, which he joined in 1984. Kvamme has been responsible for the development of high-tech companies in the areas of semiconductors, communications products and displays, magnetic storage, personal computer and large system software, and solar energy components.

Kvamme helped found National Semiconductor in 1967, serving as general manager of Semiconductor Operations. In 1982 he became executive vice president of Sales and Marketing for Apple Computer. Appointed by President George W. Bush, Kvamme served as co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) from 2001 to 2008.

Kvamme serves as non-executive chairman and independent director of Power Integrations Inc., and as an independent director of Harmonic and Silicon Genesis. Previously, he served as chairman of Photon Dynamics, and on the boards of National Semiconductor, Gemfire, and other high-tech companies. He also has served on the boards of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University, the advocacy group Empower America, and on the Executive Committee of The Technology Network (TechNet). Currently, he serves on the Advisory Board of the University of California, Berkeley College of Engineering.

Kvamme holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and an MS in semiconductor electronics from Syracuse University.
