Charles “Chuck” Watson Newhall III is a third-generation venture capitalist who cofounded New Enterprise Associates (NEA) in 1977. One of the earliest bicoastal US VC firms, NEA evolved into one of the largest VC firms with more than $20B assets under management and 500 liquidity events. Newhall has served as a director of more than 50 venture-backed companies. As one of 32 people who have received the National Venture Capital Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, he has long been an advocate of the VC industry, founding the Mid-Atlantic Venture Capital Association (MAVA) and supporting the preservation and access of oral histories of leading VCs, including at CHM. He recently published his memoir chronicling his experiences as a VC, Dare Disturb the Universe.
