Dr. Betty Alexandra Toole has been involved with research about Ada Lovelace for 32 years. She started her education at the University of Chicago and completed her Bachelor's and Doctorate degrees at the University of California at Berkeley. Before she became fascinated by Ada Lovelace she evaluated educational technology projects for the State of California and the Federal Government. She also taught History of Science and Mathematics in a program at UC Berkeley for super gifted secondary students. Her interest in Ada Lovelace was sparked by a chapter in her dissertation about the History of Calculating Devices and she then spent three years at the Bodlian transcribing many of these letters. She has published two books and numerous articles in venues ranging from Scientific American to The Annals of the History of Computing.
