Asiiah Song

Computational Media Doctoral Candidate, UC Santa Cruz

Asiiah Song is pursuing her doctorate in computational media at the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a focus on emergent language and simulated creative processes. A native of Los Angeles, she earned an undergraduate degree from UC Santa Cruz, then worked as a software engineer for a short time before returning to school for a master's degree at the University of British Columbia. She enjoys her two "adorable" pet snakes, aged seven and four years old.

Song feels that whether in everyday life or in academia, defining terms first is critical. A quote she likes to share is: “The less a science is advanced, the more its terminology rests on an uncritical assumption of mutual understanding.” W.V.Quine
