Position Summary

Are you passionate about building innovative digital solutions that make an impact? The Computer History Museum seeks a talented Full-Stack Developer to join our dynamic technology team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining our digital platforms, including our website and various online systems. You will work closely with the Director of Digital Technology to ensure our digital offerings are innovative, user-friendly, and aligned with the Museum's mission of decoding technology's past, present, and future. This is a one-year fixed-term-term position with the potential for renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the front-end and back-end of our website (Wordpress) and web applications using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Node.js, PHP, and Python.
  • Contribute to UX/UI development and design, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.
  • Manage databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, CouchDB) and implement search technologies such as ElasticSearch.
  • Work with cloud technologies (Azure Frontdoor, CDN, Blob Storage, VMs, Amazon S3 API) and implement hosting solutions on Linux environments (Apache, Nginx, Varnish, HAProxy).
  • Design and develop RESTful services and APIs for CRM, ERP, website, eCommerce, developer portal, collections and open-access initiatives—ensuring efficient, scalable, and reliable code.
  • Implement and manage version control and CI/CD pipelines (Git, SVN, Mercurial, GitHub).
  • Utilize modern authentication/authorization mechanisms and microservice architecture.
  • Customize and configure Auth0 Single-Sign On (SSO) and Universal Login for members, integrating with online ticketing, online donations, website, CRM, retail, event rentals, and marketing platforms.
  • Proactively monitor and respond to security issues, ensuring the safety of our online platforms from both front-end and back-end threats.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, security measures, and industry trends, applying them to operations and activities.
  • Provide technical documentation and training for CHM staff on the implemented systems.
  • Provide technical input and solutions for cross-departmental goals and projects.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Full-Stack Developer or similar role.
  • Ability to write efficient, reusable, and reliable code; ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
  • Strong knowledge of front-end languages (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and CMS platforms (WordPress, HubSpot).
  • Proficient in back-end languages (Node.js, PHP, Python, C++) and database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, CouchDB).
  • Experience with cloud services (Azure, Amazon S3) and Linux server management.
  • Experience in implementing user authentication and SSO with Auth0.
  • Familiarity with version control, CI/CD, VMs, containers, and microservices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to meet onsite with stakeholders, vendors, and staff as required.

Location Requirement

  • This is a hybrid position, though we are open to fully remote for a qualified candidate.
  • This position requires candidates to be currently residing and eligible to work in the United States (US). Applications from candidates residing outside the US and those not eligible to work in the US will not be considered now.

Salary range: $100,000-$120,000 annually
