Andy Hertzfeld

"Software Wizard" on the Macintosh Development Team, Apple Computer

Hired at Apple in 1979, Andy Hertzfeld joined the nascent Macintosh team in early 1981 and became one of the primary authors of the original Macintosh system software, including the User Interface Toolbox and many of the original desk accessories.

Hertzfeld left Apple in 1984 and went on to cofound three companies: Radius, General Magic, and Eazel. In 2003, he developed a web-based system for collective storytelling (http://www.folklore.org, now part of the CHM Collection), and used it to write anecdotes about the development of the Mac, which were collected in the book Revolution in the Valley, published in 2004. In 2005, he joined Google and worked there until his retirement in 2013.
