Position Summary
The Associate Director of Philanthropy, Leadership and Major Gifts is responsible for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major, annual, and planned gifts to benefit CHM. The primary goal will be to design and implement strategies and tactics to secure and increase annual and episodic support from major gift ($25,000+) donors and prospective donors with the potential to support the Museum’s annual fund and priority programs at $100,000 or more.
Responsibilities
- Become knowledgeable and conversant in all aspects of CHM’s mission, exhibitions, initiatives, programs, and long-range plans.
- Partner with the Director of Philanthropy – Annual Fund and Membership to develop strategy to solicit major gift support of the annual fund.
- Cultivate and maintain a personal fundraising portfolio of approximately 100 donor prospects with the capacity to give $100,000 or more.
- Craft and execute solicitation strategies for individual donors – write briefings, prepare correspondence, set meetings, make “the ask” (or prepare an appropriate solicitor), follow up all solicitations and steward the donation and the ongoing relationship.
- Work with colleagues to create and implement a long-term stewardship plan involving written communications to donors, including specific reporting on outcomes achieved as a result of individual philanthropic support.
- Ensure the integrity of donor relationships and philanthropic agreements.
- Assist with the implementation of strategic recognition and cultivation events Museum-wide.
- Participate in fundraising events and other opportunities to network with prospective and current donors.
- Position requires some early morning, late evening, and weekend hours on occasion.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors which resulted in a robust pipeline of new relationships and significant increases in funding.
- Ability to identify and work with collaborators to develop sophisticated strategy for high-capacity donor prospects, locally and globally.
- Has a genuine interest and enthusiasm for all things techie.
- Excellent relationship-building skills and agility to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders around innovative ideas and programs.
- Comfortable with a startup-like culture, where multiple priorities and agendas evolve through collaboration and can emerge opportunistically.
- Exceptional communication skills; articulate, with proven ability to write effectively and speak persuasively.
- Basic knowledge of planned giving instruments.
- Superior organizational skills, with a strong sense of detail-orientation.
- A Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and/or CFRE preferred.

Salary: $110,000 - $130,000 Annually
