Concertizing Solo Flutist, Mid-Ceremony Performance

Ráyo Furuta is a Mexican-Japanese American flutist. Dubbed “The Rockstar of the Flute” by the Informador de Guadalajara (Mexico) and officiated as a cultural ambassador to the United States at the age of 25, Furuta has performed for internationally recognized names including Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and the United Nations. Furuta is the Professor of Flute at San Jose State University and of Performance Practice and Community Engagement at Santa Clara University, and has held residencies at the SF Conservatory, Stanford, Lebanese American, and New York universities, among others. Under his initiative “Más Amor Arts,” he has ongoing presence in local juvenile detention centers and collaborative projects with homeless women of color to address injustices of gender, race, finances, healthcare, and housing.
