Mark Stevens

2026 Silicon Valley Laureate

For early and enduring investments in transformative technology companies, and for shaping the entrepreneurial ecosystem that powers the modern digital economy and era of artificial intelligence

Mark Stevens is a venture capitalist and technologist whose career exemplifies the leadership and influence recognized by the CHM Silicon Valley Laureate Award. His work reflects the power of Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial ecosystem—an environment where capital, mentorship, and technical insight combine to transform new ideas into global companies.

Educated in engineering and economics at the University of Southern California and later earning an MBA from Harvard Business School, Stevens began his career at Intel during the rise of the personal computer. In 1989, he joined Sequoia Capital, where he served for many years as a managing or comanaging partner. During this period, Sequoia emerged as one of the most influential venture capital firms in history and a central pillar of Silicon Valley’s innovation ecosystem. Stevens guided investments in transformative companies, including Nvidia, Google, Yahoo!, and YouTube—businesses that reshaped industries and expanded access to information worldwide.

Stevens is especially known for his deep and enduring support of Nvidia. An early investor, he has served on the company’s board since its first institutional financing in 1993, supporting its growth into a foundational platform for modern computing and artificial intelligence.

In addition to his investment career, Stevens spent several years as a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and continues to mentor entrepreneurs through S-Cubed Capital, helping sustain the cycle of innovation and company building that defines Silicon Valley.
