Les was Executive Vice President and President of Intel Capital until his retirement in 2003. With Intel since 1968, as part of the founding management team, his responsibilities included various engineering and management positions. He was member of Intel’s BOD from 1988 to 2002, and Director Emeritus until 2004. Prior to Intel, he was with Fairchild Semiconductor (1964-68) and Transitron Electronics (1961-64).
Les started working on MOS technology at Transitron, and then led the digital MOS technology sector at Fairchild R&D. At Intel, as Director of MOS Engineering, he led Silicon gate MOS technology development as well as memory and microprocessor products development. These technologies became the foundation of today’s semiconductor industry and were first manufactured in high volume by Intel.
He has served as Member of the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board (CSTB) of the National Research Council between 1991 and 1996. Les was also a member of the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) between 1997 and 2002.
Les received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1961 at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He completed AMP at Harvard Business School in 1990. He is a Life Fellow of IEEE, and holds Honorary Doctor degrees from Sonoma State University and McGill University.
