Doug Nichol

Director, Producer, Cinematographer and Editor, California Typewriter

A three time Grammy Award winner and nominee, Doug grew up in Southern California and graduated from USC Film School. He started out his career as a DP/Cinematographer, shooting the rock and roll documentaries “Truth or Dare” (Madonna) and “Rattle and Hum” (U2). Moving into directing he made hundreds of music videos and music documentaries for various recording artists such as Lenny Kravitz, Pulp, Aerosmith and Sting. After moving to London in the mid-1990’s he began working in advertising, creating and directing many award winning campaigns for iconic brands such as Levis, Smirnoff, Virgin, Mercedes and others. A short film he made, “Sunshine” (2012), chronicling his long-time producer’s adventures in Shanghai was an official selection at DOC NYC, True False and Mill Valley Film Festivals. "California Typewriter” premiered at the 2016 Telluride Film Festival. Doug lives with his family in Marin County, California and in Paris.
