Cheryl Phillips teaches journalism at Stanford University and founded and directs Big Local News, which supports local news through a variety of activities, including collaborative investigations, training a platform for sharing data on schools, the Census, COVID, and climate finance, and automated news alerts on layoffs and local audits. Phillips’ latest venture is Agenda Watch, which enables news alerts from local government agendas and minutes. Previously, Phillips worked at The Seattle Times. She was twice part of breaking news coverage that received a Pulitzer Prize and twice on investigative teams that were Pulitzer finalists. She is a former board president of Investigative Reporters & Editors.
