Avadis "Avie" Tevanian, Jr. served as Apple's software chief technology officer from 2003 to 2006, and as senior vice president of software engineering from 1997 to 2003. Before joining Apple, he was vice president of engineering at NeXT. Currently, Tevanian is cofounder and managing director of venture capital firm NextEquity Partners and serves as a board member of Dolby. He started his professional career at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a principal designer and engineer of the Mach operating system upon which Nextstep, and now macOS and iOS, are based.
