The CIP-03 is a low-profile box. The front portion of the top surface consists of an alpha-numeric keyboard with many secondary functions printed below the keys. The back surface has a power connector and one marked "RF". Two other connectors are marked "AV" and "CAS".The "Electronica CIP-03" is a Romanian clone of theTimex/Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer based on the MMN-80 CPU, an Eastern European clone of the Zilog Z80 microprocessor. The CIP-03 was called 'calculator pentru instruire' which means 'computer for teaching'.
The CPI-03 had built-in software. It was a Spectrum compatible BASIC interpreter in ROM. This BASIC interpreter was labeled BASIC 5. The only difference between Spectrum BASIC and BASIC 5 was the copyright.
The memory in the CPI-03 was implemented by a set of 8 memory chips. Each chip was organized as 1-bit x 64K. This yielded a RAM of 64K bytes.
