Dr. A Thampy Thomas was born in Cochin, India to illustrious parents. His father was the attorney of the Maharajah of Cochin who later served in the cabinet of Prime Minister Nehru. Dr. Thomas holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and is most known for his contributions to microprocessor pipeline architecture, specifically as the founder of NexGen Microsystems. NexGen was best known for its unique implementation of the X86 architecture in its processors; much of its underlying theory was developed during Dr. Thomas' doctorate work at Stanford. He also co-founded Elxsi, believed to be the first startup founded by an Indian in Silicon Valley whose investors included the Tata Group and Arthur Rock. Dr. Thomas has since become an accomplished angel investor and has served on numerous boards such as those of PostX, Micro Linear Corporation, Liquid Robotics, Juniper Research Foundation and Vintners' Alliance.
