Dr. Ito was born in 1944 in Tokyo Japan. He majored in Applied Physics at the University of Tokyo and also spent one year at Ohio State University in the US. He graduated with a BE & ME in Applied Physics.He began his engineering career in 1970 with Hitachi’s semiconductor division. His early focus was on reliability improvement in plastic molded transistors and IC’s. He later became involved in the design of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) products starting with 64K chips and continuing many generations to the 16Mbit chips. He was named Department manager of the Memory IC group in 1985.
Dr. Ito’s career continued to progress leading to his appointment as Head of the Semiconductor Group and Executive Director of Hitachi, Ltd. In 2011. When Hitachi spun off its memory group into a new company, Renesas Technology Corp, Dr. Ito became President and COO in 2003. He retired from Renesas in 2010.
